For this blog feature, we got the opportunity to meet Dawn Dolobowsky, a virtual running and triathlon coach, physical therapy grad student, and a blogger at Running at Dawn.
Read more about Dawn’s blog and how she finds enough hours in the day to balance grad school, coaching, running, being a Oiselle and Nuun ambassador, and even maintaining a social life.
Tell us about yourself. How did you get into blogging about running? I started blogging as a way to kill time at work; and, when I started running, I initially started blogging my running mostly as a training log. Over the years, it’s all sort of evolved and it mostly comes down to the fact that I like writing about running, so that’s what I do. I talk mostly about my training and racing and other things going on in my life, but I also write more informative posts over at Salty Running.
How long have you been blogging? 13 or 14 years, total — since before it was called blogging, really. The site has gone through a variety of names and designs and platforms, but the current incarnation of my blog is about 2 and a half years old.
What do you consider to be the main focus of your blog? How a busy, “normal” (i.e. not elite) person balances running with the rest of my life. Sometimes it works really well and sometimes… not so much. I started grad school a few years ago and had knee surgery shortly after that, so the past couple years has been about my struggle to get back into a steady training routine and get myself back in shape.
What have you run in the past? Pretty much everything except ultra marathons – I ran a single season of track in high school and, since picking up running as an adult, I’ve run just about every distance from 5K to marathon, on both roads and trails. I’m an equal opportunity runner.
What races do you have coming up? This weekend, I’m running the Hot Chocolate 15K in Seattle. I’ve also got the Eugene Half Marathon, Ragnar Trail Relay (Tahoe), Spokane to Sandpoint Ultra Relay, and Rock & Roll Half Marathon (Los Angeles) on my schedule. You can count on me adding some 5Ks in there and I wouldn’t count out a triathlon either.
Do you have any future running goals? If so, what are they? My big pie-in-the-sky, bucket-list goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon. However, I’m a long, long way from doing that right now. My immediate goal is to get into a good training groove and get my speed and fitness back. Once that happens, I’ll resume my quest for a sub-2 hour half and a sub-25 minute 5K.
Anything else you’d like to share with the Gametiime community? I’m also a running and triathlon coach! I love coaching runners and triathletes – especially beginners – to help them discover what they can accomplish.
