Faces of Gametiime: Running & tri coach, Dawn Dolowbosky, balances life, running, & grad school

For this blog feature, we got the opportunity to meet Dawn Dolobowsky, a virtual running and triathlon coach, physical therapy grad student, and a blogger at Running at Dawn

Read more about Dawn’s blog and how she finds enough hours in the day to balance grad school, coaching, running, being a Oiselle and Nuun ambassador, and even maintaining a social life.

Running at Dawn Blog

Tell us about yourself. How did you get into blogging about running? I started blogging as a way to kill time at work; and, when I started running, I initially started blogging my running mostly as a training log. Over the years, it’s all sort of evolved and it mostly comes down to the fact that I like writing about running, so that’s what I do. I talk mostly about my training and racing and other things going on in my life, but I also write more informative posts over at Salty Running.

How long have you been blogging? 13 or 14 years, total — since before it was called blogging, really. The site has gone through a variety of names and designs and platforms, but the current incarnation of my blog is about 2 and a half years old.

What do you consider to be the main focus of your blog? How a busy, “normal” (i.e. not elite) person balances running with the rest of my life. Sometimes it works really well and sometimes… not so much. I started grad school a few years ago and had knee surgery shortly after that, so the past couple years has been about my struggle to get back into a steady training routine and get myself back in shape.

What have you run in the past? Pretty much everything except ultra marathons – I ran a single season of track in high school and, since picking up running as an adult, I’ve run just about every distance from 5K to marathon, on both roads and trails. I’m an equal opportunity runner.

Running at Dawn Blog
What races do you have coming up? This weekend, I’m running the Hot Chocolate 15K in Seattle. I’ve also got the Eugene Half Marathon, Ragnar Trail Relay (Tahoe), Spokane to Sandpoint Ultra Relay, and Rock & Roll Half Marathon (Los Angeles) on my schedule. You can count on me adding some 5Ks in there and I wouldn’t count out a triathlon either.

Do you have any future running goals? If so, what are they? My big pie-in-the-sky, bucket-list goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon. However, I’m a long, long way from doing that right now. My immediate goal is to get into a good training groove and get my speed and fitness back. Once that happens, I’ll resume my quest for a sub-2 hour half and a sub-25 minute 5K.

Anything else you’d like to share with the Gametiime community? I’m also a running and triathlon coach! I love coaching runners and triathletes – especially beginners – to help them discover what they can accomplish.

Faces of Gametiime: Marysville runner, Brandon Nobach, battles stress fracture & pushes for Boston Marathon

This is the third post of our weekly blog feature…

This week, we got the opportunity to chat with Brandon Nobach, our first former collegiate runner (Eastern Washington University) and a blogger at Nobaching Down. Brandon’s dream is to run the Boston Marathon and is willing to battle back from a stress fracture to do it.

Read more about Brandon’s blog and his journey to Boston.

NobachingDownTell us about yourself. How did you get into blogging about running? I’ve been a runner for eight years now. I got into blogging because of a friend, Cami Ostman. After I read her book, Second Wind: One Woman’s Midlife Quest to Run Seven Marathons on Seven Continents, and started following her blog, she prodded me into starting a blog and I have kept it up relatively frequently over the past couple of years.

How long have you been blogging?

I started my blog back in February of 2011, so we are coming up on two years!

What do you consider to be the main focus of your blog?

I focus mainly on my running and try to make it relevant to other runners (i.e. trying to keep it so that others can relate in some way). I often recap my races and what races I have coming up and like to consider what people might like to see. I also write a certain extent about injuries that I am personally facing or have faced in the past.

What have you run in the past?

My running is wide spread across many areas, starting out with running 5Ks in high school and moving on to marathoning. I’ve run six marathons in total: three in Washington (Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon, Ghost of Seattle Marathon, and Skagit Flats Marathon), and one in California (San Francisco Marathon), Idaho (Coeur D’Alene Marathon), and Montana (Missoula Marathon). I’ve run a handful of half marathons as well. I also recently took up collegiate running, running one season with the Eastern Washington Eagles cross country team.

Brandon_Nobach

What races do you have coming up?
The only race I have on the calendar right now is the Lilac Bloomsday Run, but hope to be adding some half marathons this summer and get in a full marathon in August or September. I’m going for a Boston qualifying time.

Do you have any future running goals? If so, what are they? I hope to qualify for the Boston Marathon, do the “50 states challenge” (i.e. run a marathon in each of the 50 states), and continue to enjoy my running to the fullest.

Anything else you’d like to share with the Gametiime community? I love running. I love it more than most things in the world. It keeps me sane, and it helps me get through the day. I also enjoy writing, combine the two and it makes for some fun!

Want to meet Brandon? Feel free to connect with him via TwitterFacebook, or email.
